Lead Guitar, Lapsteel, and Backing Vocals
When Rick plays a guitar it's as if the raw emotion of the song is entering his soul as an angel and demon. When inside, the powers of good and evil have an epic battle wherein the essence of a guitar solo is decided. Then, as Muhammad expressing the word of God as sent to him by the angel Gabriel, his fingers rip out a righteous solo that inspires all who hear it to convert to the Church of the Rawk.
Rick's gear consists of a completely unnecessary, yet completely essential smorgasbord of vintage and modern effects including (for those of you fixated on guitar gear, please read on):
A 1999 Heritage H-535 (Made in Kalamazoo, Michigan), 60's reissue relic Fender Stratocaster, 1966 Fender Pro Reverb, Ernie Ball VP Junior Volume Pedal, Digitech Whammy, 1983 Ibanez AD9 Analog Delay, 1978 Electro-Harmonix EH4800 Phase Shifter, Fulltone Fulldrive, Boss TR2 Tremelo, Custom Mike Hoenerhoff Fuzz (made in Ann Arbor, Michigan and based on a 1970's Japanese Shin-Ei Fuzz...yes it is one of the gnarliest sounding things you've ever heard), Boomerang Plus Phrase Sampler (for that psychedelic stuff) GHS strings (Made in Battle Creek, Michigan).
